When shooting, I try to eliminate, or manage as many of the variables as I can. For example, the wind cannot be eliminated, but can be managed by using wind flags.
When it comes to my ammunition, I can completely eliminate one of the biggest variables, and that is pellet to pellet weight variation. If you mainly shoot short range, it isn't going to matter a whole lot, but In my case, I do a lot of shooting between 50 and 100 yards. At those ranges, a slight weight variation between pellets can make a significance difference in POI.
To eliminate that variable, I weight sort my hunting pellets into batches separated by .1 grain. The end result is for example, 1000 pellets that came out of two of a manufacturer's 500 pellet count tins, are now separated into four or five, maybe more, smaller lots.
Above is a picture of what I typically end up with. In this case, after sorting, I have 5 different weights. What to do with them? I have been using a hodgepodge of storage containers that I keep them in until I'm ready to put them to use. As you can see from the lead picture, they all work, but some stack and store better than others.
I recently heard about a company that sells all sorts of storage containers, and decided to check them out. I'm glad I did, because I found what I think is the near perfect solution to the problem. The company is Specialty Bottle Supply. They can be found here: Specialty Bottle Supply
Among other things, they have a nice selection of tin cans with removable tops, and the tops have a clear plastic window in them. The one that I selected for my purpose is 1.25 inches high, by 2.5 inches wide.
Perfect, I can put a label on the front of the tin that describes the contents that it holds, and I can also see the contents through the plastic window in the lid. Just what I've been looking for.
Much better.
